Springtime – the lake awakens
Spring sunshine is warming the days slightly and snowdrops, crocuses and primroses are beginning to show on pastures – this is the time when also the lake region reawakens, allowing visitors to enjoy the beautiful scenery and tranquility. And it is in that time in particular, that Carinthian customs are high on the list. Get to know some traditional Carinthian Easter celebrations with blessing of the meat at the Goritschach church and enjoy a delicious Easter feast (ham, Reindling cake, horseradish etc.) by the “Easter fire”. The first rays of spring sun can be particularly enjoyed during an Easter walk along the flower promenade while treating yourself to some delicious ice-cream. From 29 April until 1 May, there is music in the air during the summer opening at lake Wörthersee. May Day celebrations include the tradition of Maypole climbing competitions.
Late summer – the best time for hiking
Late summer or “Indian Summer” as it is called, with sunny days, crystal clear air, great long-distance views and mountains that seem to be right up close might well be one of the loveliest seasons here. Steam rising off the lake in the early morning sun - what an unforgettable nature display. The intense blaze of colors of the forests basking in the warm afternoon sun. This special time of the year offers everything cyclists, mountain bikers, hikers and golfers could possibly desire.
